Toddler Meals for Picky Eaters

Picky eating often peaks in the toddler years. One day a food is a favorite, the next day it gets thrown on the floor. These 12 toddler meals for picky eaters stick to soft textures, small sizes and mild flavors that little kids are more likely to accept.

Most of them quietly add a vegetable, like sweet potato in waffles, spinach in mini calzones or avocado in chocolate pudding. Serving Tips for Picky Toddlers

Picky Toddler Questions

What do you feed a picky toddler?

Offer soft, familiar foods in small pieces: pancakes or waffles, muffins, pasta, quesadillas, rice pudding, yogurt and soft fruit. Serve one food your toddler usually eats at every meal, and add new foods in tiny amounts next to it.

Is it normal for toddlers to be picky eaters?

Yes. Picky eating is very common between ages 1 and 5, as growth slows and toddlers become more cautious about new foods and more interested in control. Talk to your pediatrician if your child eats very few foods, is losing weight or gags on most textures.

When do toddlers stop being picky eaters?

Many children become less picky during the preschool and early school years, especially with relaxed, repeated exposure to new foods. Some stay selective longer, which is one reason to keep offering a variety without pressure.

How can I get my toddler to eat vegetables?

Keep offering vegetables in small amounts, and blend them into foods your toddler already likes, such as sweet potato in waffles, spinach in a cheese filling or avocado in chocolate pudding.
