Reindeer Pretzel Bites

25 min · Serves 12 · sweet, salty, chocolatey

Kid job: Kids can unwrap the chocolate kisses, line up the pretzels, and press on the noses, eyes and antlers once an adult takes the tray out of the oven.

Tip: For kids under 4, skip the candy nose and the chocolate chip eyes, since small pieces like these are a choking risk at that age.

Contains: milk, soy and wheat · Easy swap: Square pretzel snaps → Gluten-free pretzel squares

The full recipe, straight from the cookbook

Ingredients

  • 24 Square pretzel snaps
  • 24 Milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped
  • 24 Mini pretzel twists
  • 24 Red candy-coated chocolates, nut-free (check the label)
  • 48 Mini chocolate chips, for eyes

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Set the pretzel squares on the sheet and place one unwrapped chocolate kiss in the center of each.
  3. Warm in the oven for 3 to 4 minutes, just until the chocolate is soft but still holds its shape.
  4. While the chocolate warms, an adult snaps each mini pretzel twist in half to make two antler pieces.
  5. Gently press a red candy nose near the point of each kiss, two mini chocolate chip eyes above it, and two antler pieces into the wide top.
  6. Chill for 10 minutes until the chocolate is firm again.

Missing an ingredient? Square pretzel snaps: Gluten-free pretzel squares; Milk chocolate kisses, unwrapped: Chocolate-covered caramel candies or Large dairy-free chocolate chips, 3 per pretzel; Red candy-coated chocolates, nut-free (check the label): Dried cranberries or Red sprinkles.

Kid job: Kids can slide the banana, strawberry and marshmallow onto each skewer after an adult has done the slicing.
