Dinner is where picky eating gets loud. Everyone is tired, the clock is running, and the one meal your kid accepted last week is suddenly "gross." These 12 picky eater dinner ideas stick to familiar formats: nuggets, mac and cheese, tacos, pizza, meatballs and soup.

Dinner Tips for Picky Eaters

Picky Eater Dinner Questions

What to make for dinner for picky eaters?

Start with familiar formats most kids already accept: chicken nuggets or tenders, mac and cheese, buttered noodles, tacos, pizza, meatballs and simple soups. Then make small changes inside those formats, like a hidden veggie sauce, before trying brand new dishes.

What do picky eaters eat?

Many picky eaters prefer mild, predictable foods with one texture: plain pasta, bread, cheese, chicken, crackers, rice and certain fruits. Building dinners around those foods and adding one new element at a time works better than a completely new meal.

Should I make a separate dinner for my picky eater?

Most feeding experts suggest cooking one family meal and making sure it includes at least one food your child usually eats. That way they will not go hungry, and they still see the rest of the meal on the table.

How can I hide vegetables in dinner?

Blend cooked vegetables into sauces and fillings that already have color: butternut squash in cheese sauce, carrot and zucchini in tomato sauce, cauliflower in taco meat or mashed potatoes, and spinach in pesto.
